Shame dies when stories are told in safe spaces
- Ann Voskamp
Hi, I’m Sarah, a compassionate and approachable counsellor with a Masters degree in Clinical Counselling.
Alongside my private practice, I also work for the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin NHS IAPT (improving access to psychological therapies) service. I started my private practice as I wanted to offer flexible sessions for individuals with no limit on sessions. This allows us to build trust and form a strong, working relationship
I previously worked for a charity in Chester where I supported individuals from low-income families who were struggling with poor mental health and could not access private therapy.
From my own experience of being a mum and my counselling experience, I have a specialist interest in Perinatal mental health. This is where difficulties have occurred for an individual when pregnant or after the child is born. This can be feelings of intense anxiety and/or depression. Often, we have high expectations of ourselves as a parent and how we “should” be. This can be due to our own upbringing and/or what society expects. I welcome enquiries from expectant mothers or women who are already mothers.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I adhere to their code of ethics. The BACP is a professional body in the UK for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Qualifications:
MA Clinical Counselling – University of Chester
BSc Psychology – University of Chester
About Me
How can I help you?
Life can throw curve balls at us sometimes, leaving us feeling overwhelmed, anxious, sad, angry, depressed and confused. We may need somebody to talk to about our difficulties, someone who is not a family member or friend.
Somebody who can listen and support us through these tough times. This is where a counsellor can be helpful, and it is important to find the right one.
Let me introduce myself to see if I am the right counsellor for you.
I am a person-centred counsellor. This means I put you at the centre of our work and am led by you. I believe you are the expert of your own life, and our sessions revolve around what you need to bring. I support you in finding your own answers and we work together as a team.
I also have experience of Psychodynamic therapy and if appropriate this can be incorporated into our sessions. This is where we explore how our current feelings and behaviours may be shaped by our past experiences. We may talk about your childhood and the relationship you had with your parents.
